Have you read Haruki Murakami’s book? What’s your favorite? What? You found it strange? The story? Haha well, you have read one of his book and you found it strange then I welcome you to the surreal world of Haruki Murakami. ^^

Having been read most of his books and his short stories, now I find it hard to judge his writings. Because it’s in surreal genre, and I think there’s no rules in this path. Anything could happen in the surreal story even the strangest one. Just like what Haruki Murakami has said, who am I to judge?

Now I would just like to give my opinion about his latest book. Honestly I feel pity that it must be a book, because it is a short story yet longs enough to make it into a handy book. At least they made it attractive so there’s something new and it makes this book collectible especially if you claim you’re Haruki Murakami’s big fan (like me ^^).

How about the story? Well, it’s nothing new if you follow every Murakami’s books and the spoiler is everywhere on the internet. It’s about A Young Boy dragged into a strange library then being jailed by The Old Man but finally getting released with the help of The Sheep Man. Surreal enough for you, no?

First, I hate the main character (A Young Boy) and it was the first time I hate the main character from Murakami’s book. He was the spoiled brat who was always worried about his mom while he was dragged into the deepest part of the strange library. The way he talk and the way Murakami was trying to express the situation, it was so shallow and it feels like a children book but too dark to be a children book.

It’s still worth to buy since the packaging is very attractive among any other Murakami’s book. But don’t get high expectation since it’s a short story and short enough to finish it in just some hours (the font is big and half of the pages are illustrations). It feels like an intermezzo from Haruki Murakami after releasing ‘Tsukuru Tazaki’ then he came with this too light short story.
